FEDERAL

Prime Minister Trudeau announced the Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy is now open to applications

o Since the online calculator was launched on April 21, it has been used more than 300,000 times and more than 10,000 businesses have already applied for the subsidy

o First payments are expected by Thursday, May 7

· Prime Minister encouraged those who do not qualify for the Wage Subsidy to apply for the Canada Emergency Benefit

· The Federal government is working with the provinces and territories to provide the funding they need to top-up essential workers

· The first virtual session of Parliament is set to take place tomorrow (Tuesday, April 28)

PROVINCIAL

The Premier announced the Province’s framework for re-opening the economy; the plan includes a gradual three-stage approach with the following specific targets:

o Virus spread and containment (few cases each day)

o Health system capacity (enough capacity and PPE availability in the event of a resurgence)

o Public health system capacity (effective virus surveillance)

o Incidence tracking capacity (more testing)

· The re-opening framework is a roadmap, not a calendar, and will be rolled out when the number of daily new cases is consistently decreasing

· The Premier reinforced that there are no firm dates for reopening the economy at this time

YORK REGION

· A COVID-19 testing survey tool was launched on york.ca/covid19test; this survey can also be accessed from york.ca/covid19 under the new drop down called Have You Been Tested for COVID-19 at a COVID-19 Assessment Centre?

· To continue educating residents on proper physical distancing, a series of social media posts showing common examples of 2 metres distances continues – another one was shared today on Facebook and Twitter

· A cluster of seven positive COVID-19 cases at a Costco in Vaughan (Hwy 7 and Weston Road) has been confirmed; a public notice is now posted on york.ca/covid19

· Information on when to call 911 during COVID-19 was posted on york.ca/newsroom and York Paramedics’ Twitter account

· Today, a fourth Emergency Child Care Centre opened in our region – the Learning Jungle in the Town of Newmarket

Positive news around our region

· On Sunday, April 26 the Stronger Together fundraiser took place in support of Food Banks Canada

o A Bradford woman, Julianne Lingan, who has fully recovered from COVID-19 after being in ICU at Southlake Regional Health Centre was featured

COVID-19 IN YORK REGION

· Below is a summary of the detailed information contained in the Interactive Dashboard – Cases at york.ca/covid19

In York Region, as of April 27, at 5 p.m. there are:

1,430 confirmed cases 25 new cases since yesterday

· 5 new fatalities

Hospitalizations remain status quo with 43 confirmed cases in hospital, 16 of which in Intensive Care 81 cases among health care workers

· 87 total confirmed deaths

539 resolved cases, which equals about 37% 39 institutional outbreaks under COVID-19 protocols: 14 Long-Term Care/Retirement Homes25 Community Care Settings

· The two new outbreaks are at:

o Christian Horizon – Richmond Hill #2 congregate home; 439 Carrville Road, City of Richmond Hill

o River Glen Haven Nursing Home; 160 High Street, Town of Georgina
