FEDERAL

· Prime Minister Trudeau did not address the media today

PROVINCIAL

• Premier Ford began his announcement acknowledging action needs to be taken to fix long-term care in Ontario
• He announced the province is committed to creating 30,000 long-term care beds over the next 10 years and is investing $1.75 billion to kick-start the development of long-term care beds in Ontario
• Today’s announcement will result in an estimated 8,000 new long-term care beds and 12,000 redeveloped long-term care beds; he indicated this is a first step in a number of new initiatives being put forward to meet their target
• Premier Ford announced the government will dedicate the necessary funding to ensure long-term care homes have working air conditioning; the province is also mandating air conditioning for all new or redeveloped long-term care projects

YORK REGION

· For Wednesday, July 15, 2020, York Region closed its lone remaining outbreak – at Woodbridge Visa Care Community LTC; this will be reflected on our dashboard tomorrow

· York Region has developed a Face Mask Dos and Don’ts video to help educate residents on the Medical Officer of Health’s face mask and covering instruction and provide tips on the safe use of masks

· York Region has developed a comprehensive Face Mask FAQ document located at york.ca/covid19 and york.ca/mandatorymasks
