· Providing a Thursday update due to significant announcements from the Government of Ontario on additional funds to support its back-to-school plan

FEDERAL

· Prime Minister Trudeau did not address the media today

PROVINCIAL

· Ontario Education Minister Stephen Lecce today provided an update on Ontario’s back-to-school plan

o $500 million in funding for physical distancing, PPE, increased custodial staff and to support school boards in use of community spaces

o Granting school boards the ability to access reserve funding to focus on priorities such as greater physical distancing

o Providing $50 million in new and direct one-time funding for immediate ventilation or other HVAC upgrades to improve air quality in schools

o $18 million for staff and administrative supports, which will be dedicated exclusively for online learning

o $15 million for school board supervised technology for students who might not have access to a computer or tablet

o When combined with previous investments, school boards will be able to access nearly $900 million in targeted, one-time funding to prepare them for a safe return to school
