· Prime Minister Trudeau did not address the media on Thursday, August 27 or Friday, August 28
· Statistics Canada released Gross Domestic Product, income and expenditure numbers for the second quarter of 2020 showing a fall of 11.5% in GDP
· Other data released by Statistics Canada include:
o Payroll employment, earnings and hours for June 2020
o Gross domestic product by industry for June 2020
o Canada’s balance of international payments
PROVINCIAL
Premier Ford began his announcement thanking Minister Clark for his outstanding work in Municipal Affairs and Housing
• Thanked each correctional officer and staff member for their work throughout COVID-19
• Ontario Government has the backs of correctional services workers
• Ontario Government has committed $500 million over five year to upgrade and modernize correctional services and facilities
• As part of this investment, the government is hiring 500 more front-line correctional staff
• Government announced new Eastern Region Corrections and Infrastructure Strategy
• Modernizing and building four new facilities in Eastern Ontario
• Investments will help promote safety and improve workplace environment for correctional staff
• Will create new jobs in eastern Ontario, contributing to economic recovery

· For Friday, August 28, 2020, York Region recorded no new fatalities and no changes to current or resolved outbreaks
· York Region Public Health continues to work closely with local school boards on the safe re-opening of school in September
