 Prime Minister Trudeau today announced agreements in principle have been reached with Johnson & Johnson and Novaxx to procure millions of doses of a potential COVID-19 vaccine for Canadians

  • The federal government today announced the Canada Emergency Business Account (CEBA) will be extended from August 31 to October 31, 2020 and the Business Credit Availability Program will be extended to June 2021

PROVINCIAL

Premier Ford began his announcement indicating the manufacturing sector is the lifeblood of Ontario’s economy and the province flourishes when manufacturing flourishes

  • Premier indicated Ontario has added 528,000 jobs in June and July, including 72,000 manufacturing jobs
  • Ontario is investing $9.3 million in 11 training projects, helping students and job seekers find careers in the automotive and manufacturing sectors
  • This included $2.2 million for the Autoparts Manufacturers’ Association to create 669 internship opportunities
  • These projects will help young people pursue a career in the skilled trades and will help job seekers upgrade their skills

  • For Monday, August 31, 2020, York Region recorded no new fatalities and no changes to current or resolved outbreaks
  • City of Toronto Mayor John Tory issued a statement on behalf of the large urban Mayors reaffirming their collective commitment to prepare for a second wave of COVID-19; the statement can be viewed on both Facebook and Twitter
  • York Region has updated the Guidance Document for Places of Worship with respect to signage and social gatherings; Updated document reflects updates made by the Ontario Ministry of Health
