FEDERAL

Prime Minister Trudeau and Dr. Theresa Tam addressed the media today, expressing concern in the increase of COVID-19 cases and accelerated spread in Ontario and Quebec. Both the Prime Minister and Dr. Tam are urging Canadians to follow public health measures to help turn things around;

PROVINCIAL

The Ontario Government has announced the allocation of $35 million to hire more staff and improve remote learning in Toronto, Ottawa, Peel and York Region;

City of Toronto Mayor John Tory released a statement on behalf of the Mayors and Chairs confirming the on-going commitment to work with all levels of government to address the resurgence of COVID-19 cases in Ontario while focusing efforts on keeping schools open and protecting long-term care residents;

YORK REGION

For Monday, October 5, 2020, York Region recorded no new fatalities and no changes to current or resolved outbreaks. York Region is reporting its highest single day case count to date; previous high was 70 cases on April 13; increase is partially due to a combination of a backlog of cases and data cleaning
