Health Canada authorized the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine; 168,000 doses are expected to arrive in Canada before the end of December

The federal government announced Canada is extending the ban of U.K. flights for another two weeks

Prime Minister Trudeau announced the appointment of Vice-Admiral Art McDonald as new Chief of the Defence Staff; Vice-Admiral McDonald will oversee the Canadian Armed Forces’ contributions to the national COVID-19 response.

Through funding provided by the federal government, Canadian Red Cross teams are providing short-term support to an additional 20 long-term care and retirement homes in Ontario.

PROVINCIAL

Premier Ford issued a statement following Health Canada’s approval of the Moderna vaccine; approximately 53,000 doses of the vaccine have been allocated for Ontario in December 2020.

The provincial government will not update the daily COVID-19 cases in Ontario on Friday, December 25, Monday, December 28 and Friday, January 1; data for those dates will be posted the following day.

The Ontario government is providing nearly $41 million to help 486 non-profits rebuild and recover from the impacts of COVID-19 through the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s new Resilient Communities Fund. In a statement on the Christmas holiday, Premier Ford reiterated the importance of celebrating in person with your immediate household members and virtually with others.
