FEDERAL

Prime Minister Trudeau did not address the media today.

Health Canada indicated over 1 million vaccine doses have been administered in Canada; 870,000 people have received one dose, 113,000 received two doses. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) is reviewing data to approve the use of AstraZeneca.

PROVINCIAL

Ontario health officials provided a COVID-19 update; 153 variants confirmed in Ontario across 11 health units.

Interim results on a provincial point of prevalence study were shared 1,880 samples were tested for a N501Y mutation, a common spike protein found in variants; community cases having N501Y represented 1.2% of samples. The Ontario government is providing CEM Specialties Inc. (CEMSI) $2 million through the Ontario Together Fund to help commercialize and accelerate production of air monitoring technology; will allow air to be monitored in real time in places such as schools, offices, long-term care homes, hospitals, public transit and manufacturing facilities. Ontario is allowing pet grooming businesses to re-open with restrictions; services must be by appointment-only, through curbside pick-up and only one animal is permitted at a time.

YORK REGION

Starting today, York Region paramedics will be equipped with Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPR) when responding to calls requiring heightened respiratory protection; the PAPR provides 150% better protection, eases supply chain issues and allows for better communication with patients
