this equals 7.5 billion in credit to small and medium size businesses · Announced today, the expansion of the CEBA by increasing and decreasing the eligibly threshold o Businesses who spent between $20,000 and $1. 5 million in total payroll in 2019 will be eligible for the CEBA can be used to cover operational costs and help with other immediate needs · Introduced Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance to help small business with rents for April, May and June; working with provinces and territories; committed to sharing more details soon · Many Canadian companies have ramped up production, some manufacturers completely shifting production lines o Government has signed a contract with Irving Oil, which retooled parts of its production line to produce hand sanitizer o Geometric Energy Corporation will provide millions of gloves for health-care workers · 4 flights arriving next week with medical supplies from China o Have order 300 million surgical masks and 145 million n95 respirators o 30,000 ventilators will be made by three Canadian companies PROVINCIAL · PPE delivered to LTC homes immediately, including Participation Home in Markham; facilities for seniors, LTC residents and developmentally challenged individuals are reporting their usage numbers to us weekly so we can assess and manage the demand · The Province is expanding hospital capacity to prepare for any COVID-19 outbreak scenario o Added 1,035 acute care beds and 1,492 critical care beds and taken steps to ensure hospitals have the staff available to care for a sudden surge in patient o Planning for every contingency and worst case scenario; we haven’t hit the peak yet; making sure that we are prepared if there’s a significant increase in patients so our hospitals can accommodate those patients o Expanded testing (and testing guidelines) to test more people and priority groups: homeless shelters, women’s shelters, homes for people with disabilities, pregnant women, newborns, those undergoing chemotherapy, dialysis or transplants o Over the next 48 hours, the Province will be launching more aggressive testing, screening and surveillance by screening all symptomatic staff and residents, and asymptomatic contacts of confirmed cases o Testing will start for asymptomatic residents and staff in select homes across the Province to better understand how COVID-19 is spreading · Dr. David Williams shared that the number of people hospitalized with the virus is at 807; number of people in ICU has decreased – now at 248, “a plateauing effect” (still monitoring) · Supplemental rent relief program and support for businesses and landlords: Talking to the Prime Minister and Cabinet table this afternoon YORK REGION AND GREATER TORONTO AREA · Our website york.ca/covid19 continues to add new information including: o An epi curve chart showing the number of cases in York Region since the onset of cases in early March · York Region Public Health is reporting three new outbreaks in community care settings: CBI-Dixon in the Town of Newmarket, CBI – Haines in the Town of Newmarket and L’Arche Daybreak Group Home in the City of Richmond Hill · Sadly, two additional residents from Markhaven Home for Seniors in the City of Markham have died, bringing the total deaths in this facility to 13. · A second resident from Participation House in the City of Markham has also died; York Region continues to work with Participation House and Markham Stouffville Hospital on a coordinated approach to the COVID-19 outbreak · A letter has been sent to the Premier and Health Minister to extend the provision of Personal Protective Equipment beyond hospitals, long-term care and retirement homes to include Group Homes, Homes for Special Care, Lodging Homes, shelter workers and Personal Service Workers · The Central Region of Ontario Health is reception to the PPE needs of Group Homes, Homes for Special Care and Lodging Homes and has outlined a process to follow o Homes will register through an online form when their supply reaches a 14-day and then a 7-day maximum; priority will be given to homes in outbreak mode and they will receive supplies within a 24 to 48-hour window · A visual guide is now available to help residents navigate supports and services available through all four levels of government: regional, municipal, provincial and federal · YorkLink is offering support programs that can assist businesses during COVID-19 · The Social Service response to COVID-19 Global Pandemic Committee Report outlines how York Region is responding, and plans to respond, to the social service needs of vulnerable residents o York Region is working to prevent the spread of COVID-19 among vulnerable populations, maintain the health and safety of our residents and reduce the burden on the health care system with actions that include: · Temporary rent subsides · Increased funding housing stability and homelessness prevention programs · Establishment of free emergency child care centres · Extending funding to seasonal shelters · Providing additional funding through grocery store gift cards to Ontario Works clients · The United Way Greater Toronto Service Table includes participation from 47 community agencies with working tables for food security, homelessness supports and senior’s services established;
