FEDERAL

· Prime Minister Trudeau did not address the media today

PROVINCIAL

· The Government of Ontario today announced they will be providing municipalities with up to $1.6 billion as part of the first round of emergency funding under the Safe Restart Agreement

o Included in this funding is more than $40.5 million for The Regional Municipality of York, including $23,461,600 to address operating pressures and an additional $17,107,059 to support transit operations

o York Region issued a statement thanking our federal and provincial partners for their continued support in our response to COVID-19

· The Hon. Rod Phillips, Minister of Finance released Ontario’s 2020-21 First Quarter Finances and provided an update on Ontario’s Action Plan: Responding to COVID-19

o The provincial government has revised its projections from March and is expecting a deficit of $38.5 million in 2020-21 and the GDP to decline by 6.6% in 2020

o Single-use masks and gloves belong in garbage, not recycling

· Canada reports lowest daily COVID-19 cases in over a month

· $600,000 provincial grant helps York Regional Police fight guns, gangs and sex trade
