FEDERAL
The World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed over 100 million COVID-19 cases have been recorded worldwide.
Prime Minister Trudeau did not address the media.
Approximately 2.3% of Canadians have received at least one vaccine dose. Nearly 900,000 vaccines are expected to arrive in Canada by the end of February.
PROVINCIAL
Premier Ford briefly addressed the media to discuss the importance of mental health supports and funding;
Modelling shows Ontario will be between 1,000 and 2,000 daily cases by the end of February; cases could increase if unable to break transmission of the new variant.
For schools to re-open successfully expanded testing, constant monitoring and increased vigilance will be required Minister of Education, Stephen Lecce, issued a statement on which schools will resume in-person learning on Monday, February 1; schools in the following Public Health Units will return: Eastern Ontario Health UnitMiddlesex-London Health UnitSouthwestern Public HealthOttawa Public Health As previously announced, York Region may resume in-person instruction as of February 11, 2021.
Ontario promoted mental health on Bell Let’s Talk Day.
The Ontario government extended electricity rate relief in response to the provincial Stay-at-Home Order; electricity prices will remain at the off-peak rate of 8.5 cents per kilowatt-hour until February 9, 2021.
