FEDERAL

Prime Minister Trudeau announced further restrictions on international travel including: Canadian airlines will cancel air services to all Caribbean destinations and Mexico starting Sunday, January 31; cancellations will continue until April 30. Effective February 3, 2021, all international passenger flights, including from the United States, will only land at Toronto (Pearson), Montreal, Calgary and Vancouver airports. Mandatory PCR testing requirements will be introduced at airports for people returning to Canada; travelers will need to quarantine for up to three days at a designated hotel at their own expense.

Prime Minister Trudeau announced the second instalment of the Safe Return to Class Fund; up to $1 billion will be provided to provinces and territories to support the health and safety of students, teachers and staff.

PROVINCIAL

Premier Ford announced Ontario is introducing a six point variant action plan to help stop the spread of COIVD-19 variants; the plan includes: Mandatory on-arrival testing of international travellers. Enhanced screening and sequencing to identify the new variants. Maintaining public health measures. Strengthening case and contact management to track the spread of new cases. Enhanced protections for vulnerable populations. Leveraging data to inform public health decisions Ontario provincial offences officers have visited 1,147 big-box stores and other essential retail businesses this month; 400 more stores will be visited this weekend in Toronto, Hamilton and Kitchener-Waterloo. The provincial government announced Infrastructure Ontario’s (IO) Loan Program committed to more than $550 million in loans, supporting 159 local infrastructure projects over the past year.
